Michelle Blades is a Mexican-Panamanian Miami raised multi-instrumentalist currently residing in France. Experimenting with genres throughout the years ranging from orchestral folk, noisy fun punk, bedroom experimental synth-pop and garage psych. Blades' album titles have always resembled the music itself-- Oh, Nostalgia (2009) being the product of a move from Miami to Arizona at the age of 18, Mariana the exploration of the self in relation to the exploration of the deepest depths of our world's oceans, Songs from Another's Bed literally an album of songs composed while homeless and on the road. ATARAXIA brings us the mature cumulation of experimentation, electric guitar in hand with the title translating from Greek into "calmness untroubled by mental or emotional disquiet", or in Blades' case, a musical adaptation of an attempt at such a state as a young immigrant in her new-found home of France crafted into a clever cocktail between autobiography and myth. Taking a few steps back, Michelle now presents us with Polylust, an EP recalling her synthy bedroom tracks that renounces the grand themes of death, love and loneliness and preferring the more quotidien experiences of lust and boredom. The EP is a nocturnal reverie where Michelle played all the instruments in studio (with the exception of drums on Two Tongues) with the help of Midnight Special Records' sound engineer extraordinaire on the console and inviting several Parisian artists to sing on a few tracks. Again reinventing herself and sound, Polylust serves as a sensual dreamer's analysis of how we cure our daily ennui with the use of the internet and its many social platforms, illustrating a bored and lusty youth with the power to fulfill their desires at the click of a button.
