Without making a fuss of it, Kitsuné proudly wears its French heart on their sleeve. So it was logical for the Paris-based brand to launch the Parisien compilation series (and the t-shirt range that goes with it) in collaboration with one of Paris’ best exports: graffiti artist André who in turns designs all the Parisien artwork.
Following in the footsteps of the Kitsuné Maison compilations’ concept dedicated to presenting the best new artists from all around the world, the Parisien series showcases fresh new talents from Paris (and the rest of France as it goes). No room for elitism here, simply the best new music from Gallic shores.
Call it the new French Touch or whatever you like, this is the new blood which is shaking the City of Lights in 2013. Within 13 tracks, Kitsuné gives you the lowdown on what’s cooking up around the capital and beyond. These days many newcomers produce stylish electronic sketches seemingly from scratch using barely cracked softwares and budget laptops. They are tomorrow’s important producers sharpening their knives today. It’s this perspective which makes Kitsuné Parisien such a invaluable document of the talent currently blooming inside the French capital. Tracklist01. TOYS "Noise" A jazz arranger and a sound-engineer/producer part of Paris’ semi-legendary 18th quarter clique, Paul Prier and Bastien Doremus combine their varied influences to craft the soundtrack to a glorious psychedelic funeral march.
02. Pyramid "Wolf" On the back of the remix contest organised by Kitsuné and Heartsrevolution and a handful of solid productions, 22 year old student Pyramid is soon making a name for himself. Here he tackles a slower funkier path that nods towards our two fave robots’ legacy.
03. CINEMA "UV" Calypso Valois and Alexandre Chatelard are CINEMA. Like a contemporary Elli & Jacno (of Stinky Toys fame) they turn la variété into theirs. She sings, he plays the synths. In true French fashion their electronic pop songs are about love... and cigarettes.
04. G.A.Y "Color" Not much is known of Hugo Aymé aka the enigmatically named G.A.Y. What’s for sure is that his heroic indie-rock is infectious as chicken pox and deserves to land on the airwaves asap.
05. Dombrance "Donna" A bit of a dark horse Dombrance zigzags between producing and playing for others and doing his own stuff. Hypnotic chugger ‘Donna’ has got vibey balearic and cosmic stamped all over it.
06. Le Crayon "Cosma"After playing bass in Joy Division tribute bands Lauren started to produce French disco on his laptop as Le Crayon. A few remixes later and the 20 year old producer has developed a personal style, clubby but not too much, perfect for late romantic nights.
07. LOGO "Give Mo Luv (feat eLBee BaD) (Boston Bun remix)"Like aesthetes perpetually questioning the perspicacity of their work, LOGO will soon be turning into the leaders of the new Parisian school of laptop producers. Clever yet sensitive, the duo takes intelligent techno to new playful heights.
08. Joris Delacroix "Air France" Joris Delacroix is a classically trained musician from the south of France and you can tell. At 23, he’s already proved himself, a respected producer and dj, stalwart of a deep scene veering-towards melodic electronica.
09. Monsieur Monsieur "Arym"After Brodinski comes Reims’ new techno warriors. Léo Copet and Geoffrey Bougy are Monsieur Monsieur and take no prisoners. Their arithmetic beats are lethal. Did you say rave?
10. BeatauCue "Teion" Kitsuné’s enfants terribles, Alexis and Médéric, are progressively shedding their electro skin and morphing into a fantastic dancing machine ready to take on the world of big rooms as proved here with ‘Teion’ a dreamy number that glides along over sturdy breakbeats.
11. Synapson "Phenomena" Self-proclaimed chic dandies Alexandre and Paul aka Synapson form another duo attempting to fuse pop and dance music via live performances and eclectic dj sets. Bedsit melancholy, nostalgia by the sea ... another typically Gallic spleen.
12. FAUVE "Kané" A five-piece band that likes to think of itself as a collective open to collaborations, FAUVE dig the introspective folk route. Don’t think boho though, these boys are on the frontline.
13. Saint Michel "Don't Bother" Saint Michel aka Philippe Thuillier and Emile Larroche make Versailles proud again with their inspired aural poetry. More tormented souls in search of eternal love.
