"CW's M.O. is breaking boundaries. He's certainly a writer, not a biter" - URB MAGAZINEEvery now and again, a rap artist emerges and threatens to take the music from its growing commercial context, back to its essence. Enter 20-year-old rapper/producer Cadence Weapon (aka Rollie Pemberton), hailing from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, son of a Brooklyn DJ, nephew of a funk musician, a child of music. Rollie has used his teen years to assemble a CV in music few music-lovers can dream of and finally, Pemberton is finally about to release his highly anticipated, full length debut entitled Breaking Kayfabe.Enter a new kind of celebrity; Roland Pemberton had never released an album, but by age 18 Rollie had been an 'infamous' reviewer at online indie music mecca Pitchforkmedia.com, reviewer for Brooklyn's Stylus Magazine, Wired Magazine and polishing up on his rapping with his uncle's jazz-funk band on weekends. He launched hit mp3 blog RazorBladeRunner.blogspot.com. He also began producing beats.Early 2005, about to hit the big 1-9, Cadence Weapon decided to compile some of his best remixes and freestyles and released his "Cadence Weapon¢â'¬¦Is The Black Hand" mixtape, sold only online and at shows, and quickly became the name associated with deadly remixes of The Beastie Boys, Ciara, Gwen Stefani, Lil' Wayne, MIA, Death From Above 1979, Ghostface Killah and more. He remixed Lady Sovereign's first North American single "Blah Blah Blah" for Def Jam and did a couple big bangers for VICE Records (such as Disco D's new single "Hug It Out Bitch"). He's played shows with Islands, Lady Sovereign, Raekwon, Annie, The Presets, TTC, Hot Chip, Spank Rock, Rihanna and more.Continuing to grow his well-earned grassroots support, Cadence Weapon has teamed up with label-mates and current UK sensations The Russian Futurists and Chocolate Industries' Quebec-er Ghislain Poirier, to bring you his first single with some super-fly remixes.
