Olympia, WA born, Brooklyn-based artist, Malice K announces his forthcoming EP, Clean Up on Aisle Heaven, out October 3 via The Orchard. Along with the announcement, Malice shares his first single / video “Fast Car” co-produced by Stranger Ranger’s Issac Eiger. “Fast Car” follows “Changes” that FADER praises saying, “Malice K has a sneaky way of taking the tropiest of tropes and shaking them by the ankles until only the good bits — the things that made them worthy of repetition in the first place — remain.”
Malice K on “Fast Car” - “Not entirely sure the meaning behind the song. I’m just kinda encapsulating this general feeling of freedom. The first verse and chorus of the song were some improvised lyrics that felt good. I let the song go, then a year later the second verse came to me. The second verse has a bit more autobiographical meaning to it. On and off homelessness has been a big stress for me throughout my young adult life, and I’ve gone without a lot of comforts that come from constantly starting over. This lifestyle has been a personal choice for the most part, and I don’t want to paint a picture of circumstantial misfortune. It’s just that I’ve been the only one who’s ever known my potential, and what I should be doing. Staying true to potential means a lot of years of unfulfilled potential, because potential is a vision that becomes itself over time. And potential is equally unknown to its owner as its witness, so you can’t depend on whether people believe in you or not. It’s a personal battle between your higher self and your deepest doubts, that hopefully never ends. Through the lyrics I saw the chance to congratulate myself for holding on and working towards all I have so far. Hope it gets even groovier.”
Malice K has the songwriter charm of Elliott Smith and Alex G mixed with a Kurt Cobain like juxtaposition of bruting, raw darkness and beautiful artistry. The pacific northwest, heart on his sleeve, weirdo, hot guy troop scratches the surface of this cult artist. As a former member of Deathproof Inc, he is a non-typical artist with bi-polar nature, hopping from provocative punk-thrash-rock to lyrical melodic songs.
