Lightyears clear of the cataclysm that spawned them, and the event horizon that almost unmade them, Dominic Sen, seventh and only surviving child of the supermassive black hole at the centre of “The Evil Eye Galaxy,” drifted around space in limbo ‘til they intercepted the radio waves of broadcasts from 1980’s and 1990’s Earth. Depicting a colorful and thriving pop culture, these songs of our civilization drew Sen to the Sun like a moth to our humble intergalactic flame, and thus Sen arrived and fell in love with the meretricious myth of Earthbound stardom.

Dominic Sen is no stranger to feelings of alienation. Drawn to Earth by a series of intercepted radio waves depicting a vibrant and thriving pop culture from the 1980s and 1990s, they fell in love with the planet, but could not escape an inevitable sense of estrangement from its people. Drawing on this experience, Dominic Sen crafted their debut album Visitor. This hook-laden and dance-inspiring concept album pulls from the sounds of our recent past to tell the story of another visitor to Earth.

Throughout Visitor we follow a female protagonist’s own feelings of alienation as it progresses from being a stranger to the planet to the realities of being a woman existing in a society and a romantic partnership that rejects her wholeness and complexity. Visitor is simultaneously love story, space opera, and thought experiment. It is an ode to Dominic Sen’s love of science fiction, pop music, and exploring duality. It is a grooving, throwback pop record that starkly chronicles the challenges that often come as part of the cis-female experience.
